Welcome to CHIC 2006, Day 1

Today's Theme: No Ordinary Man Today, students and staff will be gathering for the first day of CHIC 2006 for worship, recreation, building relationships, and fun in the sun! Today’s events explore the reality that Jesus is no ordinary man - he is the Son of God. When we fully realize Christ’s Lordship, how Christ’s life and death shapes our reality, our history, and our future, our lives can be changed! Knowing Christ as No Ordinary Man helps us express our needs to our Savior and grow in our faith together. CHIC is the triennial youth conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church. The purpose of CHIC is to call a new generation to invite Jesus into their lives, to become more and more like him every day, and to serve him where ever life leads.

12:45 pm...Welcome to CHIC 2006!

This morning, thousands of students from around the country descended on the University of Tennesee campus to start CHIC 2006, No Ordinary Day. This week marks the fiftieth anniversary of CHIC, the triennial youth gathering of the Evangelical Covenant Church. Roughly 5,700 people will be part of CHIC this year, including over 1,000 adults serving as counselors, techs, and support staff. More than 350 churches from across the nation are represented and people from Canada, Guatamala and Sweden are also attending. This morning began with students piling off of buses, vans, planes, trains, and automobiles and swarming across downtown Knoxville, TN, to start a week chock full of amazing events. The air-conditioning inside the buildings is on full blast, the music is blaring, and - for now - everyone looks rested and ready to go! We hope you enjoy the new CHIC 2006 website launched today and its many interactive features. This blog - an online journal - is a new addition to the site. Each day I'll be sharing some reflections and facts about the day; check back here for stories and details about what students here are doing.
